I recently stumbled across this monumental project in balsa wood by artist Joe Macken in this Smithsonian magazine article: A Truck Driver Spent 20 Years Making This Astonishing Scale Model of Every Single Building in New York City. And he did! Watch these videos and be amazed.
I wish I could see it in person.

It plays an important role in the movie Wonderstruck.
