Looks great James, I was just at that spot yesterday and was thinking of your building and the World's Biggest. These might be the only rendition left of that time.
Thanks! They might be, although maybe Little Canada has some; maybe some other Toronto streetcar enthusiast. I'm diving into some Toronto office towers as they've been in my backlog for awhile, as a city can't live by records alone, but lord knows I've tried :-)
A picture of the Rapido New Look bus would look good in front as well. Something I'm sure Jason would be happy to see! Based on your recent visit, don't you find it amazing how much has changed? I'm in the city way more often and still find it hard to take in.
Some other building to note for modelling: Simpsons flaghip store on Queen St. the Flat Iron building on Front the current Hockey Hall of Fame building, which was a bank years back old City Hall
the list goes on. I think Little Canada is focusing on modelling Toronto in the present, not the past. I got a sneak peek at it last year and can't wait for it to open.
The changes to Toronto are particularly striking to me when I take the subway somewhere and after walking up to street-level being hit with a feeling that I don't know where I am. I assure my wife it isn't dementia kicking in, but the recognition that many of the visual cues I've come to expect - stores and buildings and such - are either heavily renovated or just plain gone and replaced with something else.
I have my eye on that Simpsons store and especially the old walkway over Queen St. I thought that walkway might make for a good scene divider. Vince has already made some trials on making a Simpson sign on his Cameo cutter and the results are promising. Shorter term I've got my eye on model of the old Efson Science building that's on Dufferin, across the street from Yorkdale - might be a quick and easy project.
I can hear that bus. You have succeeded, masterfully.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words! I hope I've built up the courage for its neighbour, Sam the Record Man - a far more difficult project.
DeleteAwesome.
