I spent some time over the weekend looking for some rocks and gravel for when it comes time for detailing the rock cuts and open areas on the Mt. Lowe layout. Those in the left pail are some rusted magnetite skarns that I'll break into smaller chunks with a sledge hammer. The gravel in the right pail will need to be sieved into a few grades so I have a variety of scatter sizes to work with.
I know, I should have flown to Pasadena, climbed the mountain, and brought back some samples. Well, there's the expense, and taking samples is illegal at a national monument, so some good, old Ontario rocks will have to be suitable stand ins.
